What are nightmares or scary dreams really telling you?
Dream interpretation fascinates people. Every time I mention that I study symbology and dream interpretation, the listener immediately tells me their latest nighttime enigma.
Have you ever had a nightmare that made you wake up sweating with your heart pounding? Well, those bad dreams are simply a message from your subconscious mind trying to tell you something.
Interestingly enough, what I’m about to reveal could give you a better night’s sleep
You may not realize it, but dreams are truly a language all their own. Imagine you go to a foreign country. If you don’t speak their tongue, you will have no clue what’s going on most of the time.
Dreams are the same. Unless you understand the language of mind and symbols, your dreams are literally in another language. Just as you might hire a foreign language interpreter, you seek out an expert conversant in dream interpretation.

Some fun facts about dreams:
- Everybody dreams, but most people don’t remember them.
- Anyone can learn to remember your dreams. It is simply a skill like any other that takes practice and discipline.
- Every dream is about the dreamer, not about anybody else.
- When you dream about another person, that individual represents an aspect of yourself rather than who they are to you in waking life.
- Dreams speak to you in the language of symbols.
Here are some of the most common questions I get about the meanings of dreams.
“What if you dream of a devil or demon?”
Nobody has seen a devil or demon, so if you dream of one, rest assured you’re not in danger of attack. Dreaming of something powerful and overwhelming that doesn’t exist is a message from your ego to cool it.
“If you die in your dream, do you actually die?”
No.
“What does death in dreams mean?”
Death is the ultimate transformation. Dreaming about you or anyone else dying is a message from your mind to you, in the language of symbols. It means life as you know it (or some aspect of life) is completely changing.
“What does it mean when you dream of being chased?”
Some aspect of yourself is trying to get your attention and you’re running away from the truth. Turn around and face it to discover the message.
“How can I remember my dreams?”
Before sleep, do the following:
- Keep a pad and pen by your bed.
- Write “I remember my dreams” at the top of a fresh page with tomorrow’s date next to it.
- Relax your body completely and clear your mind as you drift off to sleep.
- Upon awakening, before you get up to do anything, write down anything you remember. It might just be a general impression, color or feeling…or you may find you remember a long scenario.
- Like any other skill, remembering your dreams simply takes discipline and practice.
“What’s the best dream dictionary?”
My favorite dream dictionary is The Dreamer’s Dictionary: Translations in the Universal Language of Mind
So now you can have a better night’s sleep because you realize your dreams are just trying to communicate messages to help you grow.
I was a guest on the Wayne and Jayne Show, which airs on KBS Radio, British Columbia, Canada. I had an absolutely FABULOUS (and FAST) time – and I’m told they plan to have me back, which is cool because empowering people is fun!
I learned how to write my pitch and prepare for my international radio debut from Wayne Kelly, known as The Radio Guy. He has a fabulous free on-air publicity starter kit, which is precisely what I used to get the gig. Claim yours here!
