Top Desire on My Bucket List

Meeting author Richard Bach is the top item on my “Bucket List.” In case anyone reading this does not understand what a bucket list is, it is the list of dreams I shall realize before I “kick the bucket” (Things I dream of doing before I die).

If I do not meet Richard in person, the “runner up” second choice would be to speak with him, and third choice would be to correspond via letter.

Meeting him in person is the primary aim!

How Many Degrees of Separation between Me and Richard Bach? Let’s find out!

It has been said that there are only 6 degrees of separation between any two people. I suspect that in today’s world, it could be less.

Since I do not personally have access to Richard Bach, I am activating the amazing human network

An Open Letter to Richard Bach: Expressing Gratitude and Appreciation

Dear Richard,

You and I have never met in person, yet my life is one of the millions profoundly touched by your books.

I consider you my first mentor since I was about 7 years old. That’s when I read Jonathan Livingston Seagull.

My first encounter with one of your books was rather humorous.

My mother, not generally one to read spiritual or personal growth books, had read Jonathan Livingston Seagull.

She obviously fell in love with the book, because she took me down to the public library to read it myself.

The library had a large print copy, which was important for me as I had (and still have) very limited eyesight.

For some reason, we were not able to check a book out of the library. Mom was so insistent that I read the book that she made me read it cover to cover in one sitting.

Certainly, the book is a short one and for most people very easy to read, but not so for a girl with limited vision.

Yet even though my eyes were very sore and gritty from eyestrain by the time I finished reading, it touched my life forever.

I could at that time, and still now, very much relate to Jonathan.

I have never been somebody who could scrap for a meager existence with the “breakfast flock.”

I have always been on a very different path from those around me, and that book helped me get through many torturous years as a child dealing with bulling and plain old meanness from kids in the school.

Children made fun of me every single day because of my eyesight, because of my weight, and primarily because I was so different from everybody else.

I simply could not be like them.

High school was merely an amplification of my experiences with cruel kids.

Back then, as now, I loved to read, write stories, and listen to the stories of anyone around me. I was not the least bit interested in sports, being mean to someone who’s different, or trying to get ahead at the expense of anyone else.

Certainly, my own nature is what it is. And your book played a very important role in my childhood.  It helped me keep strong through years of tears and torment.

As somebody who has never lived near the sea and rarely visited an ocean, I have always had a “thing” for seagulls.

I would not trade being so very different from others for all the scraps in the world!

One of my favorite inspirational quotes in the book is: “You have the freedom to be yourself, your true self, here and now – and nothing can stand in your way!” -

Years ago, my mom bought two metal seagull wall sculptures. They still grace her walls today. Looking at them reminds me of the glory of being different.

Metal seagulls wall sculpture that makes me think of my favorite book, Jonathan Livingston Seagull by Richard Bach

I was very grateful when the National Library Service for the Blind put some of your books into audio format. That means I’m able to read Jonathan Livingston Seagull and  some of your other books with my ears anytime, without eyestrain.

I still read the book every single year.

As much as Jonathan Livingston’s Seagull touched my heart, your impact on my life did not stop there.

You wrote another fabulous book called The Bridge Across Forever. I still haven’t found my own bridge across forever, but I know that I will.

One of my favorite inspirational quotes from that book is, “That’s why love stories don’t have endings! They don’t have endings because love doesn’t end.”

Yet again, you wrote another book that was, and is, important in my life. That book is Illusions.  I also read Illusions every year.

I have bought and given away more copies of that book than I can recall. Probably at least 2 dozen.  There are so many powerful teachings that I adore in that little book.

One of my favorite inspirational quotes from you in Illusions  is, “We teach what we most need to learn.”

You are top on my list of people whom I would love to meet and share a meal and some good conversation.

One of my fondest desires is that I meet you in person and thank you, give back to you a small measure of the love that your work has brought into my life. Meeting via phone or at least corresponding would also be a treasure!

Whether I will ever have the opportunity to meet you in person, I do not know. Certainly, on the energetic plane, I have given you numerous hugs, profound gratitude and appreciation, and loads of love.

I make a point of letting people know what they have done for me. And I encourage my friends, my colleagues, and my clients to do the same.

No, I don’t idolize you or put you on a pedestal. You are a gift to the world! Thank you for sharing your unique gifts with me.

I feel it is important to show appreciation in every way possible for all of the abundant blessings in life, including people whose work has made such an impact on me.

I still hold the faith that perhaps we will meet in person. I never worry about the how. If it is meant to be, somehow it will absolutely happen.

But thank you, Richard Bach. I honor you and I appreciate you.

Much love,

Ronda
