Storytelling Techniques: Do Your Stories  BOOST or BUST Your Business?

I remember being at a seminar one time visiting with someone I hardly ever see. At one point, her husband went into this long story retelling the beginning of the movie 2001: A Space Odyssey.

He went on and on…and on…and on…honestly, I could have watched the whole segment twice by the time he finished. I had to supress the urge to wander off.

Now, this person is a good storyteller. I guess he simply couldn’t help himself that time! Several peole were looking around or wandering off.

Go ahead and laugh. You’ve been there, done that and bought the T-shirt, as the saying goes. And at a family gathering, it’s no big deal if Uncle Fred spins a long pointless tale.

BUt you’re in business, so storytelling matters.

If you blurt out facts or tell stories with more twists than a licorice factory, your sales will suffer.

How do you know if you’re an effective storyteller?

There are several indicators:

 Whether people hang on your every word or roll their eyes when you start talking is one.

Sales conversions is another. If you find that people don’t turn from prospects into customers even though you have terrific products or services and are great at twhat you do, poor storytelling techniques could be at the root!,

Another way poor storytelling shows up is hiding behind credentials. Nobody will be wowwed by your 15 certifications in alternative healing. THey’ll be wowwed by how you solve their problems!
