Storytelling for Business: Creating a Customer Experience at Macaroni Grill

The atmosphere of the Macaroni Grill at Branson Landing enticed me as much as the delicious aroma of Italian food that wafted into the frigid night and called my friend and me into the warm cozy restaant. A fireplace, dim lighting and piano music made us both smile, then, a bit of business storytelling caught my attention.
After taking drink orders, our server, Sarah, set out a dish and poured olive oil into it. “This is old world butter,” she explained. “Before refrigeration there was no way to keep butter cold. So people used olive oil and cracked pepper as a dip for their bread.” She brandished the peppermill with a flourish and cracked pepper onto the pool of green oil.
as a storytelling for business expert, my intrest piqued immediately. Would there be more storytelling to come during the meal?
Alas, no.
That was a lovely, atmosphere-enhancing story that she told, but there were no more tales to come.
What a great way to increase sales they would have if the servers might share other stories. Perhaps about the food or a custom frim a region of Italy or a visiting celeb.
