Don’t Let Unethical Marketers Destroy Your Business Image on Social Media

There are businesses out there that don’t have quality products or expertise to attract their potential market. Hence, out of jealousy, they try to destroy the image of their honest competitors with unethical practices. Online social media is a great way of spreading your message, but these unethical marketers wrongly use this medium against their decent competitors. So, you need to be prepared to fight back and protect your brand image.

Let’s now discuss what steps you can take to ensure that your business image remains strong and intact:

Make Your Business Prominent on Social Media:

First thing that you need to do is create your presence on all top social media websites. List of famous sites is easily available online. Some famous sites are: YouTube, Digg, Stumble Upon, MYSpace, etc. You can create your account on these sites in a matter of minutes only. Once done, provide your company information on your profile page.

To make your business memorable and build your corporate image effectively, make sure that your logo is prominent on all the pages. Also, provide your contact details, so people will know where your business is located and how to reach you.

Make Videos and Create Pages:

You are the perfect person to represent your business, because you will provide correct and authentic information. Hence, go ahead and start creating videos and pages to promote your business and tell people why they should choose you.

Creating a Fan Page is a common practice now, so when you create one, don’t forget to mention that it’s your company’s official Fan Page. This is what legitimate businesses do to show that they are authentic and fake pages created by competitors to distort their image should be ignored.

Expand Your Network and Don’t Ruin Your Image with Your Own Hands:

It’s time you start adding people to your network. Find people from your industry and connect with them. Make sure you stay away from spamming. If you spam, you will ruin your image with your own hands. You are on online social media to protect your brand, not to destroy it yourself. Communicate with your network and win their trust. Once they get to know you, only then you should, once in a while, talk about discount offers and promotions.

You Are On Social Media Now – What’s Next?

After you take care of all the steps mentioned above, you will be able to create your presence online effectively. Now, it’s about time you begin your search to find thugs who are out there to distort your brand identity.

It’s About Time You Take Action to Protect Your Brand:

After creating your presence, you are now ready to find fake and unethical pages and videos, created by unethical marketers to destroy your brand image.

Once a week, you should go to social media sites, where you have created your account, and search for your company information posted by others.

For example: If someone has created a Fan Page in your company’s name but their way of communication is unethical and unprofessional (to distort your image) then you should immediately report such a page.

This is an ongoing process and you should allocate some time for this activity. If you spend a few hours once a week, then it should be enough.

So, don’t delay and begin the hunt as soon as possible.

1. Be sure you have a profile picture. that should be the first thing you add on any neetwork.

2. Be sure to complete your profile as soon as possible upon joining a network. Your taste in music isn’t a big thing, but your bio and/or company information IS. On your personal page, it needs to be a nice picture of you. On your company page, it can be a logo or image of your store.

3. Use each network the way it is intended. Twitter is more casual. Facebook is a little more formal compared to Twitter.

4. Interact. Reply to people. Reach out to people in your niche. Find those who are your ideal market.

“Did you hear yourself just now? I asked in return.

“What do you mean?”

“Repeat your question and listen to yourself,” I instructed.

“I asked, ‘how do I get people to buy from me?’” a beat. “I don’t get it.”

The key phrase here is “get people to buy.”

The way most horse trainers GET their horses to do beautiful and incredible maneuvers is to use whips, bits, and force.

The way this trainer did it – well I don’t know the methods specifically, however there is clearly no reason the horses would act the way they do unless they truly WANT to do it.

So let’s turn back to that question: “How do I GET people to buy from me?”

When you want to “get someone” to “to something” you are in the head-space of selling them. It means you want to convince, cajole, or coerce. It means you are thinking about YOU and not about your customer.

If you think this way, realize that you’ve been taught by society and by the way m ost mrketers do business that you need to approach it this way.

Yet, there is another way to do business, and it is based on SERVING, not selling. It is based on leading with value and caring for the person who is opening their wallet and their life to you for assistance.

1. Cause people to WANT to be around you and to do business with you because of the quality of your products and your service.

2. Provide so much value that they stick around and then tell friends, family and even strangers about you or your product.

3. Give them a super product that will empower them to do something great, solve a BIG HUGE problem, or satiate a craving.

When you flip your internal switch from selling people to serving people, amazing things happen. Take some time to think and work through these steps and you’r on your way to soft-sell marketing.

Do business with heart. Love your customer. Solve the big problems that keep your ideal customer up tossing and turning all night. And do business honorably and respectfully.

Help moving into the service mindset

Did you see the part in the video where one horse boosted the rider up onto the other horse? The trainer could have gotten up on her own, but she chose another option. You CAN get there on your own, but why not get a leg up?

I find the aggressive language many marketers use distressing. Think of the following bits of verbiage I’m sure you’ve heard before (or maybe even used) and tell me how it makes you feel…

• Obliterate the competition

Is it truly necessary to use the aggressive language of war and subjugation in order to sell your stuff?

I say no.

As author of The Peace Seed: Personal and Global Transformation through Storytelling, and as someone dedicated to being what Deepak Chopra calls a “Unit of Peace Consciousness,” it is important for me to use and teach nonviolent communication methods, which I prefer to call cooperative language and a peace mindset.

First, let me share the issues that arise with aggressive language.

When you use phrases like “annihilate your competition” or “obliterate competition.” you demonstrate a single-minded violent purpose: to destroy someone else and take business from them. This is a patriarchal war-like position to take.

But perhaps you’re wondering how you can earn a living if you’re not taking business from other people or steering customers away from them so they’ll supposedly come to you.

Is there a way for you to attract customers who willingly, even excitedly, open their wallets to share their contents with you? Certainly!  An abundance mindset and a true desire to serve your audience will bring you everything you need and more.

And when you are well branded and when you work things in a prosperous manner, you have no competition. Not because you’ve destroyed them, but because you have made your offer attractive, and maybe even because you’re turned your alleged “enemies” into allies.

It truly can be done that way. Yes! Many times, those who would appear to be competition can become allies.

Here is a story that will give you several examples. I work with people who want to become authors. There are a number of people serving the same audience, and we each do it differently.

One person has some excellent teaching but no affiliate program. I am speaking to him about adding an affiliate program, and since he hired me to assist him, I will earn anytime someone invests in his program.

Another person has some great materials for authors but does not want to work with authors directly, except in a few special cases. He will use some of my book writing materials in conjunction with his programs, and I will be working with those would-be authors who ask him to help them. So I will benefit from serving them and he will prosper without having to do any of the work. All are well served.

Another company is not doing the same thing I am but they do provide services for authors who already have books out. Since they have prospecting customers who are either writing books or thinking of writing books, when they use my system for how to write a book that’s profitable, these new authors will have better books, so they’ll get better results when they hire this company to help them with their promotions. It’s a great win for all concerned. I’ll promote this company to those who want that type of service as an affiliate, and they will be an affiliate of mine.

What’s happening? I’m consistently going to companies that serve the same audience I do, directly or indirectly, to explore how we can work together for mutual benefit and to better serve the clients who come for assistance. By inserting my system into their process, their clients benefit because by working cooperatively, each company gives their utmost best and the clients win. So do both companies!

What are the wins?

• I extend my reach to more people and earn more with less effort. The other company does the same. And there are more and more authors of successful books emerging because we “competitors” are forging a profitable joint venture.
• I know that some people will be drawn to me and my system while others will not. That’s perfectly fine – even expected.
• I spend absolutely NO energy or time tearing down others who serve the same audience.
• I know with every fiber of my being that there is more than enough business for all of us. None of us is perfect and nobody can meet everybody’s needs.
• Since I do not see competition, I openly and freely approach business owners with no fear of loss of any kind.
• And as a matter of fact, I’m finding it fun to find the holes in what they offer, filling those holes, serving their customers, making allies of them, and creating fantastic win-win-win scenarios all over the world. It’s FUN!

How is this practicing Peace?

Too many business owners expend a huge amount of energy and precious time finding ways to out-do the others in your niche (what most people call “competitors”). You try to one-up each other. You stir the pot to bring discord. Maybe you even talk down the other to your potential customers. This ultimately hurts you and drives potential customers away from you rather than toward you.

Imagine how much more fun and free it is when you spend your time and energy finding better leveraged ways to serve more people (serve more, work less) without trying to hurt someone else’s business. You even turn what some would consider enemies into trusted colleagues, and everybody, especially the customer, wins.

This is indeed a peaceful – and PROFITABLE – way to conduct business

First, let me give a little background in case this is new to you.

A product launch, whether this is a book launch or the introduction of a home study course, event or anything else, happens when you make a big splash about introducing your newborn product into the world. Typically,  you get a whole bunch of

people to promote during a certain period of time (a day, a week).

OK, now you know what this is.

Getting other people to promote your stuff is a GOOD THING. In fact, it’s a MUST. It’s leverage, and it’s powerful. But what I observe happening way too often is that people don’t start recruiting affiliates until – well… take a look at the usual series of events and you’ll see for yourself.

The Problem with Product Launches

Here’s what happens.

Phase 1: Product Creation

1. The Product: First, the product creator makes their product, and

2. All the other stuff that goes with selling a product: Creator writes (or hires out copywriting of) several webpages – partner info page, partner thank-you page, product sales page, thank-you page, download page, series of autoresponder messages (emails) –and let’s not forget graphics — and …

3. Buzz/promotion tools: Creator makes videos, audios, a acebook fan page, and whatever other promotional materials are needed.

All set

Now, the promotion MAY BE all ready to go. (and by the way most of this may not be done by the time they start seeking affiliates to promote)

Phase 2: Gathering Promo Partners

OK, now Creator has the product ready and wants people to promote it. Many book launches are set 3-6 months ahead of when someone looks for promotion partners.

Maybe Creator thinks an adrenaline rush is the way to work up a feeding frenzy, but honestly, the timeline for promotion is often WAY too short.

Here’s what happens all too often.  Creator sets up a launch time that is 2-4 weeks from today.

They want “Whales” (big names) to promote.

The Whales all have their promotions lined up 3-6 months ahead.

The Dolphins (what I call mid-sized list-holding promoters) are often booked 1-2 months ahead.

The Trout can often squeeze the promotion into their schedule but don’t have a big following yet.

The Minnows have plenty of space open in their promotional calendar, and they’ll readily sign up for a launch, but they don’t have any traction in the marketplace.

the Krill only know 5 people but they’ll tweet like crazy to try making a buck.

I have been reaching out for partners on a promotion with a short-term, fixed launch time, and some of the people who have the perfect audience for the product are booked for 3-6 months ahead.

If this were a “rolling launch” – meaning there might be one early push and then people can promote anytime over the course of a few months, the launch can be wildly successful, and it will build up momentum or “steam” for a longer period of time.

The BIGGEST problem with product launches

Short-term rushed launch = smaller profits because the bigger cats don’t have enough notice-  AND

Who said marketing should be done like a swimmer’s gulps of air along a race course?

How is that effective marketing? I truly do not understand.

One person I know of who had a 7-figure product launch made the mistake of buying a palatial home with a pool in the mountains. His monthly expenses are, naturally, very high. And rather than pay off the home he had been in and realize that this huge income was not going to be a continuing income, he blew a huge wad and now has monthly expenses that are more than what some people earn in a year.

So, why set yoursself up on a product launch financial roller coaster?

Would you rather have one burst of income followed by a 6-month dip…or would you rather work toward steady, sustainable income?

Launches definitely have their place, but

The media loves them and they’re regularly on
radio/TV shows and written-up in print publications.

They not only know how to get a ton of free coverage,
but also how to profit from the coverage in the form
of increased sales, name recognition, speaking
engagements and more.

Beware of False Evidence Appearing Real

The other day, I went into the chicken coop to gather eggs. I still have some fake eggs in there from when the hens were babies learning where they should deposit their precious gold-filled jewels. Even though the hens know exactly where to lay eggs, some of them evidently like to feel as if they’re really accomplishing something, because they have moved a number of the fakes into the nests.

The plastic eggs are quite realistic. They’re a little rough, so they don’t seem like plastic. They’re light brown, just like most of the eggs from my brown-laying ladies, and they’re about the size you’d expect any egg to be. But they’re hollow and insubstantial in heft.

So when I approached the nest in the hay bail, the hen whom I call Brrr because of the growly noise she makes told me she had her fortune beneath her and she did not want to give it up. She’s actually a sweet hen but makes a lot of noise when you go for her stash. Laughing, I lifted Brrr off her hoard and discovered she did indeed have a whole pile of eggs.

If you look at them, they all appear to be real. And when a hen has been sitting over them, they’re all toasty warm. So they all feel the same at first touch.

So in order to take only the nourishing eggs home, I have to handle each egg a little to sort the real from the fake. As I went through this sorting exercise, I thought how much it reminded me of doing business online.

See, there are a lot of gurus who appear to have nourishing information. They package it in a way that makes it appear valuable. It’s the right kind of stuff, and it seems appealing. It looks like exactly what you need

As a matter of fact,some people hoard all this information as if it is all a treasure beyond measure, just as Brrr does. It is only when you take the time to study the items that you realize some are heavy, nourishing and true, while others are hollow and misleading.

I know I’ve run into a number of fake eggs in my entrepreneurial journey. I even used to work with one of them. Perhaps you’ve encountered some misleading information along the way as well.

So whenever you encounter someone who appears to have valuable resources that will nourish and strengthen you, be sure to interact with that egg to discern whether or not it’s true!

What you’ve just experienced is an example of storytelling for business in which I used an everyday occurrence…well, for ME it’s an everyday occurrence…and used it to show you an important teaching  in an unusual and memorable way.

Perhaps you’ll remember the story of the plastic eggs next time you encounter what appears at first glance to be nutritious, healthy resources. And I’m sure that like me, you’ll pick up a fake once or twice and only realize when it’s in your hand how useless it truly is.
