Ken Jensen Answers the Question, “When You Want to Know How to Write a Book, Where Do You Go”?

Lots of people want to write a book, in fact about 82#, but most people don’t know how to write a book. I’ve known many people who have ideas on napkins, partial outlines or book pages stuffed in a drawer for years but no book.
What do you do when you want to know how to write a book but don’t know where to turn?
Ken Jensen, author of It Takes Guts to Be Me, was a coaching client of mine, and when I heard what he said about me, tears came to my eyes. I know what a journey it was for him to have the confidence to realize that he really could write a book.
He’s an ex-Marine. I actually don’t think there is such a thing as an EX Marine. I think the attitude stays with them forever. Ken had a rough life and overcame more challenges than most people. He didn’t think he had a good enough system. It was quite the journey.
I am so very proud of Ken, because not only did he write his book and launch his small business, but he has continued to expand his horizons.
The funny thing is, he had 1 on 1 mentoring with me and finished that a couple of years ago, and we’re still friends (which isn’t odd), but we’ve never met in person. Thanks to technology, people can get coaching and do all sorts of things even when they’ve never met their mentor face to face.
Here’s what Ken Jensen said about me.
Thanks, Ken!
If you’re smart, you’ll get someone to mentor you, because you can really cut to the heart of the matter with you and help you get your book done. Whether that is me or someone else is obviously your choice. You want to make sure you feel comfortable with your mentor.
If you’re a tire kicker, you can get a free 10-part multimedia mini-course on how to write a book that explodes your business.
That said, i hope you’re not a tire kicker. If you own your own business, if you are an expert, if you are a speaker, you definitely need to become an author.
I’d like to get you started writing your book right now, and when you pick up the Instant VIP system (which is a tiny tuition for you), you get a $500 value strategy session wiht me so that I can give you HUGE value and help you get off to a great start with your book.
How to Write a Book: How Do You Create a Compelling Book Cover
January 23, 2010 by Ronda Del Boccio, The Story Lady
Filed under I'll Push You Steer, Instant Credibility, Writing, how to write a book
How do you create a compelling book cover?
if your book is coming out from a traditional publisher, you don’t have any control over the cover. If you are using a small publisher, chances are excellent that you have at least some control over the cover. And when you publish a book yourself, you are in charge.
A compelling book cover is hugely important. The cover is the first thing people see. It sells the book. Of the 4 stages a book browser goes through as she dsecdes whether to buy, 2 are about the cover. I’ll say more about that in a bit. First, I want to share what happened with my first book that I co-authored with Bonnie Tesh.
When Dan Case of AWOC Books agreed to publish I’ll Push You Steer: THe Definitive Guide to Stumbling through Life with Blinders On, at first, I wasn’t too sure I liked the green cover. It quickly grew on me. but at first I wasn’t sure. Dan does wonderful artwork, and like any artist, art isn’t exactly reality. Bonnie hasn’t had blond hair for a while and my 60 lb guide dog doesn’t look like a schnauzer, even though she does on the cover. But the little gren book grew on me. Dan’s artwork perfectly represents the feeling of the book.
Bonnie and I talked to Dan about the idea for us in a fun looking car, and he created an awesome cover.
I’m working on 3 books right now.
- Ken McArthur‘s book The Story of Impact, sharing stories and strategies for touching millions of lives.
- The Peace Seed: Personal and Global Transformation through Storytelling, a Messenger MiniBook teaching you how to create peace through storytelling and story receiving.
- The Instant VIP: Insider Secrets to fame, Freedom and Fulfillment as an Expert AUTHORi, coming through AWOC Books, teaching how to write a book that explodes your business.
Right now I’m creating the cover for The Peace Seed. I have a designer who is part of the Messenger Collective who will do the cover for me, and it’s up to me to select the cover image.
The cover has a big job. The image, font and text on the cover need to capture your attention, demonstrate the value of the book, and cause you wo crave a copy of the book and order it.
The Cover and Emotion
The image is what will connect emotionally with the reader. I’ve looked at probably 1000 images for The Peace Seed. Naturally I know what I want the cover to convey. The reader does not, and it is the image that will either cause you to take a look or walk away.
If you are self publishing, the cover is essentially up to you, even if you have a designer.
Give me your opinion
It is a good idea to have people look at some images so you can be sure that what speaks to you will also speak to the ideal customer. I want you to help me select the cover image for The Peace Seed.
One person said he wanted to read the book first and then give an opinion. I I want the gut reaction. All you know is the title at this point. Yes I do have a video up with an excerpt but the point is you will respond to the pictures.
From the title, you know the book has something to do with peace and something to do with storytelling.
I selected 6 images that all would work and I’m letting YOU help me choose. Naturally, I’ve gotten responses all over the place. It’s great when someone lets me know (in the space provided in the survey) why they made the choice they made.
What I did to create the survey:
- looked at bunches and bunshes of images and selected a few possibilities.
- made a Word document with the selections and gave them a number.
- made a PDF using a free program called PDF Printer.
- uploaded the PDF showing the 6 contendors to my blog. so you can access it.
- Also turned the document into a jpeg image and uplaoded it.
- Asking people for opinions as blog comments.
- I sent the survey using email, Twitter, Facebook, SoKule and this blog to ask for your responses.
Bu the way…These are all free tools I used.
Want to play? –> Give me your opinion here.
How a Reader Makes Book Buying Decision
#1 bestselling author Jason Oman first explained this to me, and it has really been an important understanding. Here are the 4 stages:
1. Front cover
- image grabs reader emotionally.
- title grabs attention.
- subtitle states benefit or promise.
2. Back Cover
- endorsements from industry leaders
- book description
- Author bio/picture
3. Table of contents
- benefit to reader
- solution to big problem or way to satiate big passion.
4. Look inside the book
- know, like & trust author
- conversational tone
- real solution
So you see why the cover is such a big deal. And it feels wonderful to hold your own book in your hands, even when it’s the “proof.”
Dr.Mani Sivasubramanian has a new book coming out called 47 Hearts. You don’t see h im in the photo that follows, but he is holding a proof copy of his upcoming book in his hands. That is an AMAZING feeling! He likens holding his book to holding his newborn baby.
I will review his book 47 Hearts in a few days, so please subscribe to RSS so you’ll be the first tocatch every post.

Mark Joyner and I ask: Will Being a Bestselling Author Lose Its Power?
January 7, 2010 by Ronda Del Boccio, The Story Lady
Filed under Instant Credibility, Writing, how to write a book
An email from Mark Joyner inspired this post. He made a bold prediction with regard to being a bestselling author, and I’d like to invite Mark to an open discussion about it here on my blog and in any other venue he wishes. I feel it is an interesting and valuable conversation to have for anyone wondering how to wr
ite a book and make it a bestseller.
Mark made a bold prediction in the email:
“I think that 2010 may be the last year that calling
yourself a “best selling author” will have much
weight.I may be off by a year or two, but this reality is
likely coming.”
Is he right?
The landscape is changing rapidly for authors. Personally, I don’t think an author who only publishes an ebook or Kindle book will ever have the prestige and credibility a print book author will have. maybe I’m wrong. I guess the coming years will tell the tale.
But will being a bestselling author lose its allure?
Before I answer that question, I need to fill you in on some of the changes in publishing and how people read books.
Changes in the World of Publishing
The traditional publishing model is one of the sickest systems out there. There are so many layers of people to be paid, and the author takes a ridiculously low royalty. Worst yet, the author loses all rights to her own work. Even though the author should leverage the book into sales of other products and services, traditional publishing has gotten ridiculous.
Assuming you WANT to lose rights to your own work, breaking in is unimaginably difficult. A new author can’t get in the door with out an agent, and a new author also is hard-pressed to get an agent.
And let’s not forget that for most books, it will take a couple of YEARS before your labor of time, sweat, agony and love hits shelves. So time isn’t on your side if you want to leverage the credibility and product sales that being an author can give you.
Small press publishing is definitely a much better option. If you can get a publisher interested in your work, you are likely to keep all the rights to your work. The lead time will be much less (perhaps only 2 or 3 months). So if you don’t care about having an established big-house publisher, this could be a way to go.
Print on demand publishing is definitely making it easier for anyone to write and publish a book. When I first started my entrepreneurial adventure 3 years ago, the prevailing attitude of many writers was, “if you can’t get a REAL publisher to look at you, then you’re not much of a writer.” Then those with that belief faced the harsh reality of trying to get a “real” publisher to look at them. Suddenly, POD publishing didn’t seem so bad.
Now that it’s easier than ever to become a published author, the way people read books is changing in a big way.
I was thinking about college textbooks this afternoon and wondering if students will invest in a book reader and pay a small amount for each of their books, thus changing forever the large amount of money, space and time devoted to buying, reading, and selling back textbooks.
Books are Changing
I will always love a print book. I adore going into a bookstore and spending hours pouring through the books. I love everything about books – the feel, the smell, the excitement of being an author. Even though I often read audios because I’m legally blind, I love to be able to hold a book, underline things, make notes, etc
. Now, portable devices like Amazon’s Kindle are making it possible to hold a whole library in your hands without hauling around 5 steamer trunks Now that I have a phone with an mp3 player in it, I can transmute PDFs into audio and read books while I’m on the go. I admit it’s easier to carry 5 books in my phone than in my bag, but nothing will replace print books for me.
over 2.5 million Kindles have been sold to date, and the machines are only getting better and more “techie.” Now you can get books online right from the Kindle.
It’s no doubt we are in an era where we want what we want when we want it, and we will let nothing stand in the way. Just last night my friend Rhonda said to me she wanted to read a book but didn’t want to wait to order it or find out if her local bookstore had it in stock, so she looked for a PDF.
And when I went into a bookstore with my friend Pam, she was astonished when I told her that a book that had been out for more than 6 months wasn’t likely to be on the shelves unless it was a bestseller. She couldn’t believe it.
Are books becoming paper dinosaurs?
Torn as I am about loving the smell and feel of a real book in my hands VS the joy of carrying a library in my purse (assuming I could actually turn every book into audio so I could read it from a Kindle or similar machine), I think there will always be a place for the print book.
And, I must admit that electronic books are a greener solution than tearing down trees to print books.
The Power of Being an Author
As things stand now, you’re not a real author if you only have an ebook. Think of it. How many times do you hear an expert introduced on a morning TV show as, “author of the ebook…”? It never happens. If you are an ebook author and you tell your local media you’re an author, they won’t credit you as an expert to the same degree they would with a print book. They may not interview you unless you’re a big deal in your area.
Will this all change in the coming years? Will being the author of Kindle book or even a “garden variety” PDF ebook be enough to give an author credibility with the media and with customers?
Perhaps, but in my opinion, for at least ten years you’ll still be more prestigious if you’re the author of a real book printed on ink and paper – and all the better if you also have Kindle edition of your book!
The Fall of the Bestselling Author?
Now, back to mark Joyner’s prediction, and my own.
Well, ebooks are going to kill the print author.
It’s already happening right before our eyes.
But here’s the big irony:
It’s easier now to become a “best selling author”
than at any point in history. This is a paradox, but also a huge opportunity.
The average guy simultaneously has the ability to
become a bestselling author (literally anyone can
do it) *and* he will get all the “street cred” that
goes along with it. The street cred that may not
be available next year.
Interesting.
I have some additional thoughts on being a bestselling author. One of my friends is absolutely convinced that he is the first person to figure out how to become an Amazon #1 bestselling author. It’s probably between him and Joe Vitale. I don’t know (or even care) if he’s right. These days, several people can show you how to be an Amazon bestseller, and for those savvy about marketing, it’s not even that big a deal. It’s just a matter of finding the right partners and blowing the roof off sales for a particular hour.
Remember, I’m talking right now about being a bestseller on AMAZON>COM. I’m not talking about other lists here. And sure, who wouldn’t want to be a #1 Amazon bestselling author, because it still gives you a huge amount of “street cred” with the media and with the average customer or potential customer. It’s still a great accolade to have. Yes, I’ll be going for it myself very soon with The Instant VIP, which is currently available in PDF form.
Nothing – and I mean nothing – gives you the same jolt to your status and credibility as being a bestselling author, no matter which list you name. Being an author already puts you in a whole other class from all of your competitors. Being a bestselling author puts you in the stratosphere, and being a #1 bestselling author puts you in orbit high above the rest.
Mark Joyner said it this way in his email: “If you are a bestselling author, you can catapult your brand quickly to the top of the heap.”
Mark and I are both in agreement that you absolutely, without a doubt, MUST write a book and take it to bestseller on the list of your choice.
We even have complementary courses.
Before you can take a book to bestseller, you have to write a good book – and not just a good book worth reading, but a good book that also produces profits and compels people who read it to do business with you.
The Instant VIP System is the system I created based on the experience of coaching a couple hundred entrepreneur authors and studying what makes for a profitable book. You’ll discover how to make sure the book is your best lead generation, media magnet and customer attraction tool ever. Currently, the whole system is available as a downloadable ebook with various bonuses to make it easy for you to follow a recipe for a profitable book.
Mark Joyner’s Bestseller Blueprint is a fine addition to his line of products, and like everything he does, it is easy to follow with plenty of step-by-step guidance. I am proud to be an affiliate for this program. I am currently reading it and preparing to take my book to bestseller using his system.
His Simpleology program is something I recommend to every single client or prospecting client. Bestseller Blueprint is based on his own experience of taking 4 books to bestseller, sometimes against remarkable competition.
I’ve reviewed a number of products for authors, and I’m impressed, as always, with how his material is organized. You won’t dive in only to realize he forgot a step or didn’t tell you how to make something happen. And for clarity’s sake, I am sharing my opinion freely; I didn’t get any special perks or other compensation for saying nice things about Bestseller Blueprint.
Mark Joyner says the “Great Window” is now open – but not for long.
He says that the time is right now – but not for long – that being a bestselling author will still carry weight.
But you have to do it or you’ll always be nipping at
the heals of those who have. This is what I call “The Great Window.” These
windows only open up once a generation or so, but
those who jump through it are “set.”
mark, I’d like you to say more about this Great Window. Why do you believe it’s just about now or never for “bestselling author” to be an esteemed title? I agree it’s an important and highly desirable distinction – and perhaps being the bestselling author of a print book will evolve into a different kind of bestseller in the next couple of years. What makes NOW the critical moment?
I really would love to create an open dialogue with you about this. We both teach an important aspect of being an author. My system is how you write the book and his is how you take it to number 1 bestseller.
Special offer from me and Mark Joyner
Mark Joyner is offering his 12 interviews with bestselling authors to anyone who picks up the Bestseller Blueprint right now. I don’t know for how long (that’s the truth – I don’t). One of the authors will share how he can get himself onto bestseller lists at will. That alone is worth the price of admission, because if he can do it, so can you or I.
Pick up The Bestseller Blueprint right now, then drop me a note and I’ll tell you how to get Mark’s special gift. Email me or use the contact form on this blog and I’ll hook you up right away. While you’re writing your book (hopefully using my system), you can start preparing the way for bestseller using his blueprint.
My gift is only being offered to my subscribers and those who read this blog post. And I am making it a time-sensitive offer. Since it’s my product, I know exactly how long you can have this offer. When you invest $37 in the Instant VIP System, I’ll give you one of the modules from the Instant VIP Multimedia Home Study Course.
So you’ll have the complete system showing you how to squeeze the most possible profit, credibility and leverage out of your book AND I’ll give you a audio training that gives you specific strategies for making the most out of the experience of being an author. I’ll be offering the modules separately very soon. My offer ends Jan. 31, 2010.
Commit to becoming an author
As an expert, it is Mission Critical for you to become the author of a profit-producing book. Don’t guess or try to figure it out yourself. Follow a proven path – a simple recipe – and commit to becoming an author this year along with some of my clients, such as Zna Trainer, Steve Holmes, Anne Holmes, Rhonda Cort, Sohail Khan, Gina Gaudio Graves, and others.
Seeking Story Submissions to Feature in My Upcoming Book: How Has Writing a Book Improved Your Business?
December 4, 2009 by Ronda Del Boccio, The Story Lady
Filed under Accepting Story Submissions, Inspirational Quotes, Instant Credibility, Live Events, Mentoring, Videos, Writing, how to write a book, publishing
If you are a published author of a print book, you could be featured in my upcoming book, Instant VIP, which teaches entrepreneurs & other business owners how to write a book that increases customers, contacts and profits.
Here’s what I’m looking for:
I am featuring stories from entrepreneurs/business owners sharing how being a published author has changed your business.
If this is YOU – I’d love to include your experience!
You’ll find out how to submit your experience in a moment.
Examples of results attained because of being a published author:
I have already received some fabulous stories from author experts! I’m really excited about each and every story, AND about the wide variety of niches in which they do business. For example:
- One author in a highly competitive market submitted a project bid. Competition was stiff. He included a signed copy of his book and got the job.
- A pair of co-authors instantly established themselves in a related but new niche by authoring a book.
- Another author uses her book to generate leads for her training program and has seen a dramatic increase in enrollments.
- A coach became an author and finds it easier to attract coaching clients as a result.
These are just a few examples that I’ll be including in my book. Soon I’ll be sharing the names and stories of these authors on the blog – AND, most important – in Instant VIP.
A Flash of Inspiration
I decided to request stories when I was reading my HARO (Help A Reporter Out) update one day. HARO is a fabulous and FREE way to connect reporters with sources.
- Reporters can be reporters for media outlets such as magazines, TV shows or internet radio shows – OR even someone writing a book looking for sources.
- Sources can be experts in any niche or industry seeking ways to share your knowledge.
You never know what you’ll find in a HARO! And lots of people will respond, so you really can select the “cream of the crop” – the best story/resource – for your need.
The description below of what I’m seeking is a modified version of my HARO query.
How to receive the HARO reports
Experts can register to receive requests 3 times per day on weekdays. There can be 30 or 50 or more requests from reporters in each issue.
Why am I including stories from authors about how writing a book has improved your business?
(What I’m about to share applies to YOU as well) Simply take this idea and use it for YOUR niche or need.
- When you see numerous stories about how writing a book improves business, you will build belief that you, too, can get results like that.
- Stories catch your attention more than facts or even step-by-step. It’s part of how your brain works. You’ll remember stories You’re wired for stories.
- Reaching out to people you don’t know (or don’t know well) as well as people you already know increases your circle of influence.
- People love to see their name in print.
- Someone who shares even a short blurb is likely to tell other people that they’re featured in a book.
- And they’re likely to buy a copy and perhaps cause several or dozens more to be purchased.
- Authors featured in your book may want to promote your book when it comes out.
Promoting the Book
A few of the author experts who responded to my first request have already asked me to let them know when the book is out so they can promote it. Woo-HOO! Build-in promotion partners.
If you use this strategy:
Here are some things to consider when you use this type of strategy. And actually, you’re getting the inside scoop, because I haven’t even told my HARO people some of the cool things I’m doing for them.
- If you’ve worked with me or read this blog before, you know I’m going to say “start with the goal.” What do you want to happen? First, get clear on what you want from the submitters so you don’t have to go back and forth.
- Now for the “cover your rear” piece of advice. Get a signed release that gives you permission to use the material in the work and in promotion of the work. Doing so gives you protection from someone, for whatever strange reason, deciding they don’t want their name and story in your material. I got 1 note back from someone with an AWESOME story who said it just didn’t feel right (to get a whole bunch of free publicity for them and their business). Go figure, but cover your assets.
- Acknowledge the submission in a special way inside your book/project. I’m including all the names of authors whose stories I’m using in the Acknowledgments section of the book.
- Thank the sources for their submission. They’re adding depth and richness to your book or other project.
- Update the sources on the status of the project. I’ll let them know when the book is ready to publish and how to order.
- Give the sources a way to profit from the project if possible. I’ll offer them the opportunity to join the affiliate program. I’m also providing them a special resource to share if they choose.
How to Submit YOUR Experience for Possible Inclusion in Instant VIP:
All you have to do is leave me your blurb (a couple of paragraphs is fine) in the comment box below.
Here is what I’m looking for:
I have a book almost ready for print that teaches entrepreneurs, business owners, speakers, coaches and the like a simple system for how to write a book that explodes your business.
I am including statements from entrepreneurs in various industries who have written a book. What I want is
a statement about how writing and publishing a book has changed your business. Have you gotten more media attention? More referrals? Bigger ticket sales? more long-term clients? Something more unusual? Your story could be selected for the book. Please share the following information:
- full Name:
- Industry/niche:
- Book title:
- Publication year:
- Logline (1–sentence description of the book)
- How has becoming the author of a book changed your business?
Thank you for enriching my book with your experience. I truly appreciate YOU!
What Happens Next?
Once you submit your information below, I’ll review it. If I select you for the book, I’ll email you a release form to sign and return to me.
Thank you
OK – time to share!
Remember:
- full Name:
- Industry/niche:
- Book title:
- Publication year:
- Logline (1–sentence description of the book)
- How has becoming the author of a book changed your business?
When Should You Give Free Consultations or strategy Sessions?

The most valuable commodity of any expert is your time. Why? Because as an expert, in only a few minutes, you are able to save someone a huge amount of time and headache by sharing your expertise.

- Image by ToniVC via Flickr
A recent conversation caused me to w
rite you this post to assist you in your own business development. Learn from a mistake I made – and I should have known better!
The husband of one of my affiliates is considering writing a book. That in itself is a good thing! My affiliate told him that I coa
ch entrepreneurs on how to write a book, which of course is very
much true.
I broke one of my own rules, and I will not break it again.
This affiliate has not made a purchase from me. Why I mention this is because I offer a $500 value strategy session with me as a gift inside of my products. That means by the time you meet with me about author coaching or business mentoring or story coaching, you are already a buyer, not a freebie seeker.
Some business mentoring for you:
I don’t sell coaching through a sales page. only offer coaching after I’ve had a consultation. This allows me to decide whether I believe you are a good candidate for author coaching. Contrary to popular belief, it’s not up to the client to choose the coach, it’s important for the coach to screen and select the best clients.
When I worked for someone else, I inherited a LOT of “problem children” because he took anyone who would throw money at him, and many of those people were expecting too much done for them. (One of many reasons I am SO glad I work totally for myself is I get to screen my own clients instead of inheriting people who want me to serve them their completely formed business on a diamond-encrusted platinum platter when they are only paying for a guidebook for how to write a book served in a wooden goblet).
When I Offer A Complimentary Consultation
In the past, I used to offer a strategy session to
- Anyone who bought a product/service from me.
- Anyone at a live event with me.
- Anyone who came via one of my trusted allies.
Now, I typically give free strategy sessions under only 2 circumstances.
- I include a consultation as a bonus inside a product.
- We meet at a live event and I give you a consultation/strategy session.
In other words, I do not generally (except that I broke my own rule last week) give a free consult to an ally or affiliate. Experience shows me that these are not necessarily good candidates. I have various ways for people to experience my systems in the form of free gifts, inexpensive products and classes first.
When you develop a system, stick to it!
as I said, I broke one of my own rules to be nice to an affiliate. I know better. Please don’t make my mistake.
Back to the conversation with the affiliate’s spouse. I met with him for about a half hour about his potential book-business. I gave him top-notch business mentoring during this time. At the end of the call, he asked for a discount, figuring he deserved one as the husband of an affiliate.
Warning bells went off in my head.
I should not have given him my valuable time.
What I should have done was refer him to the Instant VIP Author Multimedia Home Study Program. (those are product links) Why? for several reasons.
The big ones are these::
- Because he is not a proven buyer; he has not invested in himself and his book-business idea with me yet.
- Because he immediately asked for a discount as if it were “owed to him” as an affiliate’s spouse, demonstrating he is more of a haggler than someone willing to truly invest in himself.,
- Because he has not experienced any aspect of the teaching within my system.
- Because a lot of his questions and concerns would be answered by knowing what and how I teach in the system and beginning to formulate his book idea before talking with me.
- And remember, he would get a free strategy session anyway as a buyer of either the Instant Credibility ebook or the Instant VIP Author Multimedia Home Study Program. (both of those are links to my products available for purchase). So after either purchase, he would qualify himself to receive a half hour of my valuable time.
And here are a few other considerations as well. Keep in mind that coaching sessions are a half hour long and there is no “done for you” in it:
- I got the feeling what he wanted from coaching was for me to write FOR him or at least do some of the writing with him. That is an increased level of service, not coaching.
- I got the impression what he wanted was for me to read everything he wrote. Again, this is another level of service different from coaching.
- He wanted approval for his work. Deep down, everyone wants approval. However in terms of your book and business, approval is demonstrated by actions such as customers investing in you, media attention, and joint venture opportunities – not by your mentor.
- He wanted me to do his editing. Again, different service. Editing is not coaching.
- In other words, he would have treated coaching as if it were a “do it for you” service. I do offer ghostwriting and “write with you” services at a higher investment, and I am particular about the projects I take on.
What is coaching/mentoring?
For simplicity’s sake, I call the individual sessions where I guide you through writing your book coaching. People understand author coaching but not so much “author mentoring.” Not everybody has had guidance of that nature.
So, what is coaching?
I asked the would-be author if he ever had a child in little league or other sports.
He had.
“Did the coach ever pick up the bat and hit the ball FOR your child?”
“No.”
“Because that wouldn’t be coaching. That would be doing it FOR him. Coaching or mentoring is I teach you and give you the best possible tools, and you do the work.”
When I used to work on someone else’s team, he had a TON of clients who expected to pay for breakfast and be fed for a year. In other words, they bought a coaching package and expected their coach to spend hours and hours and hours doing things for them that they needed to do themselves.
There is no real way to guarantee coaching results, because I’m not coming to your house and forcing you to sit down at the keyboard to do your market research, formulate your business and write your book. Can I do that? Yes, but it will cost you exponentially more than hiring me to coach you. use the contact form to ask me about this extra special service.
the Deeper Issue for Many Would-Be Entrepreneur Authors
First understand that what I’m about to share is NOT a criticism of this person or anyone who feels similarly. Ultimately, this individual wanted things done for him because he lacks confidence in his message. He wants to write a book and simultaneously shrink into the background and hide behind someone else’s skill.
It’s common for a “messenger” who feels a strong desire to share your truth to feel uncertainty. After all, you’re about to be bold and brave and put your thoughts into print. You’re about to “take a stand” regarding what you believe.
Every entrepreneur author needs to develop your expert voice and your confidence. Remember, you are not only writing a book but building a business around it. You will share your message, promote your book, gain customers and in every other way grow your influence.
That means you are in charge of building your platform. Part of developing your business involves developing your expert voice. You gain confidence by speaking/writing/sharing your most important message over and over again.
I only take on ghostwriting or write it with you projects under certain conditions. Generally speaking, if you have an established platform and materials already “out there,” I will let you hire me, because you already have your business in place and your voice established.
The reason is because if I become your voice for you, I will cause you not to grow, and because you won’t have confidence in your message, you won’t get the media attention, instant VIP status, instant credibility, increase of customers and other benefits of becoming an author.
Although I might financially gain from taking on un-confident wannabe authors with no voice and no platform, I would not truly gain – and YOU would lose – because I would short-circuit your personal and business development.
My mission is to guide you through bringing out every ounce of greatness within you out into the light so you can be whom you are meant to be.
I hope that sharing how I re-learned a lesson I should have known will profit you.
